Notes

Mallee, rarely a small tree, to 10m tall.  Bark smooth, sometimes coppery, sometimes with rough bark at the base.  No oil glands in the branchlet pith.  Leaves aromatic when crushed, alternating up the stems, 5-10cm long, 7-25mm wide, flat, hairless, green, glossy or dull. Flowers white, rarely pink, with 0 petals, in clusters of 3-8 at the bases of the leaves. Two rows of stamens, the outer ring of stamens not producing pollen.  Flower buds and nuts square in cross-section, with four longitudinal ribs.  Bud caps shorter than the base.  Nut valves not very noticeable.  Endangered Vic (ssp. calycogona).

In Eucalyptus calycogona ssp. calycogona the bark is wholly smooth. 

In Eucalyptus calycogona ssp. trachybasis the bark at the base is rough.
